I would like to thank Sonia of the Peaceful Knitter for sending me a link to a terrific Ted talk on wearing nothing new. The speaker, Jessie Arrington, starts off by showing off her panties; all she packed for her trip out to the conference. Instead of filling her suitcase with, well, anything, her entire wardrobe was purchased upon her arrival at local thrift stores to demonstrate that second hand need not be dingy and depressing but can be unique and fashion forward even. She also wanted to shed a light on the consumer decisions we must make every day and how attitude, not designer label, was the best vehicle to allow our most presentable selves to shine through. This embraces the spirit of what I've been trying to achieve with my vow to not buy brand new clothes. Very SS Wednesday of you, Jessie!
Jessie also happens to be madly in love with colour (her bio states her favourite colour is rainbow - cute!) so in honor of the Lucky So and So (the name of her blog by the way) I wore the outfit I wore to my friend's house to dinner last week. Craig snorkled (wait, that's swimming with goggles and a mouthpiece) and asked if I wear pink much. I did replace the pink scarf and pink shoes with what you see. What would I do without my Craig? My very own personal Tim Gunn. Lucky lady!
Whoops. I just realized this isn't the SS Wednesday-est outfit thus far. The only thrifted find here is the polka dot scarf on my head. But I did make the fuschia organic jersey shirt, a variation on the Sew Camp top, stripey pants are a gift from Mumsy, and, well, the Hunter boots are a splurge from a city trip a couple of summers ago. But by the amount I wear these boots, and the volume of Daisy poops on them, they're practically second hand these days. Shoot, I hope I just didn't blow my chance at a speaking gig!
