Do You Know the Button Man?

A long, long, long time ago, when we first moved out here (about two years ago), I was keeping my eye out for some vintage suitcases to help organize my fabrics, maybe get Edie a tickle type trunk for her princess outfits, and then I came across this baby at a backalley thrift shop. It was crammed full of vintage buttons that belonged to a button salesman in the forties and fifties. The buttons are even resting still in their sample cards. His widow donated the whole shebang to the store and at first I started foraging and pecking like a mad woman who's never seen a button before and then I thought, what the hell, I'll just buy the whole thing; case an all. You can never have too many buttons, right?

And then, you know what I did? I couldn't decide on the perfect day to reveal the suitcase full of vintage buttons from under its secret hiding spot under the sewing table. There didn't seem to be a day where Craig seemed like in a good enough mood to embrace the fact I spent that much money on clothing fasteners.

I had to fess up on the day of our move to our new place. He didn't seem that mad! The trick is to wait until there are about seven other people around helping to move your house full of belongings. The funny part is he was asking me when I was taking these pictures to sell them on my etsy shop why I would part with them. I thought I'd recoup some the cost from the purchase. Maybe at least the psychological trauma type cost from feeling a little shifty for hiding them for so long. Anyway, I posted a sample card on etsy and it sold in two hours! My first sale! Yay... I'll be throwing more of these love-ies in the days to follow in case you have a vintage button sickness.
