Project: Cute

Ediedoll

I don't know if it's the early phases of nesting or what but I have this burst of energy and it's reflected in my craft room. Edie pokes her little nose in there and sees my roving bin opened and says "let's make a project together!".

Can I just say I dropped whatever was in my hands with a loud thunk and then a smash and said "sure, baby!!! What does mama's little princess wanna make?". She said a doll and she was really excited about using the pipe cleaners spilling out of my knick knack box. So we made a fuzzy wired skeleton and garnished it with warm woolies and her little dolly was born, along with Edie's art direction (loved the green pig tail call!), in no time at all. She bonded with this baby faster than a crazy glued construction worker to a beam.

It's at this point Craig came barging out of his office and put an end to our own little Hallmark made for tv moment. He heard our photoshoot in session through the window right behind us with me saying "okay, now squish your cheeks against your dolly's and keep your face toward me but your eyes rove to the right... no, your other right, and have a look of serious love going on..".

Baby 'n Cakes

Pinkydoll

I'm being naughty. I should be packing but thought I'd be able to sneak in a quick little post to share the craziness that is our lives his week. Before packing up my craft room I really wanted to finish two dolls I'm making for a friend embarking on a great adventure with her little family. They parred down their belongings to the bare minimum, including the girls' toys, and have asked for little dollies to ease the transition. What an honour. My friend has watched Edie already for countless hours and I'm so happy I can return the favour in this way. Not to mention her eldest is Edie's best girl and the little one just makes me laugh for she's so special. They're not completely done, littlest one needs hair and they both need some jet-setting outfits.

Cakes

On the other fun front, I got to help out my friend who was hosting a raw food retreat make breakfast for the 20 participants. They were all part of a vision quest journey with a Peruvian shaman the night before. Everyone's face was glow-y, sleep-deprived though happy, like everyone just fell in puppylove. On the menu was mint tea, fruit salad, smoothies and up above were some raw food cakes with blended apples, mango, banana and coconut and raisin crust (the symbols were made from rose petals and some kind of berries - goose?- I can't remember now). It was tasty and fun but I don't know if it's the drizzly weather, or my high protein needs but I had to immediately go home and ingest me some eggs and sausage. Bad yogi! We're moving this weekend, my computer's in the hospital so hopefully it won't be too, too long before another post. I'll try for early next week with pictures of us lounging in our new pad! Thanks for all the  beautiful pad name suggestions by the way. I'll bring them up at our next family meeting.

Gnome More Excuses

Umbrella

Let's get the excuses out of the way first. Our camera batteries are those rechargables but they've been recharged one too many times and we've been without my favorite accessory until we were able to go to town and get more. Gawd, I missed so much cuteness to share with you! Hopefully this makes up. Back to school season again! Edie's enrolled in a Waldorfy parent and child class again. It's called Sweetpeas. The program's as cute as its name. She loves it so much, she's been playing going to school the last few weeks by throwing pillows on the floor in a line, placing one doll on each one while she sits at the "back of the bus" and they all go to school. So she almost went into a seizure when I told her her best friend, Ambrosia, will be in Sweetpeas this semester too. She loves her so much as you can probably tell by the picture (though, I have to admit my prompt was "look at each other, then smile"(I say smile with an extra dose of smile in my voice). Ambrosia's mom is one of my favourite girl friends out here so it makes me sad to remember that they will be moving very, very, very far away soon.

But on a happier note, my best friend from highschool just moved into the area and she's enrolled in Sweetpeas  too. She, of course, has a child and he turned two yesterday. For his fete, I whipped up a little Gnome doll in his likeness. The hair is actually the yarn I spun from the spinning course I took last year. Good ol' Bronwyn the sheep. I bought an extra bag of her to make Isobel but I truthfully can't even go there with my head much with my giant to-do list growing with moving day just around the corner. Can I say our place is coming together so fabulously? I don't mean to gush but it's so ours now it just makes me ovulate.

Now that camera's working, I'll be able to capture the evolution of our new nest so far. I see the sun's peeking out now after a few days of rain. Fresh batteries, sunshine; the blogesses are smiling down on me. Other than my blogging addiction, we don't mind the rain much. Ducks have recently been anointed as our family's power animal. Fertility, family, peace and protection. Quack.
