Sew Ho

Img_4768

Look at these beautiful fall days we've been blessed with. Have I've been frolicking along the river banks chasing Nature in all its autumnous glory? NO. I've been a busy beaver making soap and sewing shirts all weekend long. I finally finished the stripey shirt and was able to recruit a sweet friend to photograph me in it (I suck at self portraits I decided - plus Edie's start to make me self-concious about it when the sessions last longer than fifteen minutes!).

Img_4751

This shirt's from a Built By Wendy pattern by Simplicity (4112). Was totatally not that hard! I feel like I've taken up sewing for about the twentieth time now.  My mom being a professional seamstress for forty years has always been super inspiring but I think I've finally caught the bug for real. Maybe it's happened cuz we've moved so far from her recently it's dawned on me I can't bring myself to buy clothes that I think my mom could whip up so easily (and  for free!).

I'm so stoked on how much fun this was (the sewing, not the photo shoot. Edie was crying as these shots were taken)  that I started another shirt on Saturday and finished last night  - was a much simpler style.

As a side note, the lurvely lady taking these shots is my sweet friend Raina:

Raina lives out here too with her little family and moved out here from the big city, funny enough, the same week we did. The side note is this: Raina was the doula at Edie's birth and she took the most amazing photos of the whole episode. So, whenever I post birth shots, that's the angel behind the camera. Plus she's an amazing Doula to boot. Soopa Doula. Here's a shot she took at the big event. The first moment we've laid our eyes on our dream come true captured by Raina.

Obi, Oh My!

Img_4743

This first pic's an ode to my old man. He hate, hate, hates fuzzy pictures but sometimes I don't mind them so much. It takes the edge off of the self-portait attempt cheese factor just a touch. Or maybe it's adding to the factor au fromage? Oh, I just don't know anymore!

Obi3

Look what I got! My kidneys will be smiling with warmth this winter. This beautiful obi (like as in those Japanese sashes worn with kimono) score's from the amazing Leya , the designa who couldn't be more kinda. My kidneys thank you, Sweetie Pie! Plus, it seems to match my kitchen where I've been spending the bulk of my days it seems.

A couple of other FO's are breaking over the horizon. I think I'll spare Craigy the fuzzy pics and call over a girlfriend for a photoshoot sesh. Until then, keep your internals warm!

Good Hobbits are Hard to Break

Img_4687 Img_4688

Little munchkin at the Sinixt Nation barter fair thanksgiving weekend. Beautiful time with beautiful locals. Had my backpack loaded with soap and spent all my loot on food. That's how it goes these days. Eat, eat, eat. But I did get me a beautiful necklace, do I have a picture of it yet? No. I was trying to swing a deal with this cute little Hobbit top. Both me and Craig have a similiar one so I'd thought it be cute if Edie had one but the girl wouldn't take all soap (What's wrong? Why don't you want twelve bars of soap all at the same time?). It's a little tight around the middle anyway. Apparently the little Tangerine's an apple-shape like her Old Lady. This girl will make more soon she says.

SO bad with the posting lately you guys! I have to admit my technique. I usually base my post on pictures I have available on my camera. Lately I've been luckly to leave the house... at all! Let alone with a camera. First of all littlest Monkeysita fell ill this weekend. Woke up puking (sorry for tmi (too much info)) then wicked fever THEN hallucinating!

We were in bed (we have a family bed, y'all) and she was feverish, crying non-stop then she's crying and lifting up the bed sheet going "Here, pup, pup, come'on". Those are alot of words for our little Munchkin. And she wouldn't stop saying that. And she was making the sign (oh, yes, she signs, she's pretty much perfect) for dog so it looked like she was calling over a dog from under the sheets. Freaky. Especially since she's kind of scared of dogs.

Anyhow, she's doing all better now, except with dark circles under her eyes but she's back to her cute, coherent self. So that's another reason for lack of posts. That and I'm busy with Do Be! Lots of orders. My sweet Megan's on her way over with Edie's boyfriend Noooo-aaahhhh for a play/chat date while I slap on a lot of lables on a lot of soap to keep this neck of the world smelling goo.

Willing and Labled

Soapstand

Yes! I finally got new lables for my babies. I'm so very pleased! The pieces making up Project Do Be Cleaner are finally beginning to neatly fall into place. Armed with my beautiful babes, I approached local stores this week who have been anxiously yet patiently waiting sinced we moved here and I scored me four new accounts plus a hot, hot lead for this big hemp store with sticky fingers all over our nation's fine hemp fringes! Don't want to be jinxing myself so I'll say no more till something more concrete happens.

Time to celebrate. First to send me a 2-legit-2-quit hemp soap-themed haiku (five-seven-five {syllables that is})will win themselves a sweet smelling package in the mail. The punnier the better. GO!

There he is!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We had an amazing feast with friends last night at our mom-away-from-home's house. I have so much to be thankful for. Primarly those two cutes up there.

On another note: while sewing/knitting lately I've been listening lots to, much to Craig's chegrin, to a nifty little podcast that's just too fun. Lime and Violet talk about knitting, yarn and vear off to tangents far, far away much like all my favourite friends and I seem to do. Lots of laughing that may annoy SO's but that's their problem. I love it. Thank you.

Jeeper, Creeper

Img_4635

I have a mission statement to knit everyone in our family a sweater in the fall from now on. Or at least for this year. Then after a sweater there will be a hat for all, then after a hat perhaps tackle six socks which, for some reason, I'm scared of. I don't know why.

So, just like on a plane during an emergency and oxygen kits calmly tumble from the sky and mothers are to don the mask first so as to take care of the rest of the family, my sweater had to be completed first to be sure I am kept warm and cozy while whipping up everyone else's protective layers lest I catch my death and everything's just a huge waste of time.

Creeppeep

The pattern for this one is, again, from Rowan no. 38 and, again, modeled by that beautiful girl with the gigantic afro I'm so in love with. The sweater's called 'Creeper' and I used the suggested yarn - Rowan Plaid. It's got bat wings which is good cuz I'm kind of  going through this eighties thing right now. Here I am modeling it on our hammock. Tough to get a picture of yourself in a sweater on a hammock but Craig's so busy he probably would have left us if I asked him for a Ty Ty sesh.

So, I had a crazy weekend. I made in an impromptu trip out to Vancouver. Long story. But we had such a fun trip as a family and we're loving the new car. Got to stay with Craig's sister who has a little one who is four months younger than Edie (little cousin Camryn!) and got to breathe in some ocean air if for only a few breaths. Here's some trip shots. Note the Creeper in action.

Yeah, slim pickings on trip pictures. Just thankful we made it home all safe and sound.
